Yonex BG-85 SP (each)
[BG-85 SP]
by Mark Appleton Date Added: Saturday 29 September, 2007
AT900P - 23 x 25lb

Has a very similar feel to BG-80: crisp, LOUD, and carries vibration very well - control shots such as hairpins and serves can be judged very accurately. The power of BG-80 is also present, and I would say they are about equal with regard to smashing. Defensive blocks and lifts go out with considerable force, perhaps more than BG-80.

The durability of the Vectran strings is often criticized, but my BG-85 has lasted around 12 hours and, while the coating is obviously fraying by now, there is no notching that I can see. My tension is quite low compared to most, so perhaps I am not in a position to judge for all players!

As far as tension retaining is concerned, I would put BG-85 slightly below BG-80, but that might be because I took it straight off my machine to a 3 hour session :)

In terms of pure performance (with no regard to durability), I would rate BG-85 very highly. I can only hope my soon-to-arrive Nanogy 98 offers even more power...
