Yonex Voltric 70 SP/IP

Yonex VOLTRIC 70 (VT-70):

This racket is rated by the manufacturer as moderately stiff and I would concur with that on the basis that it feels stiffer than an ARC7 but not as stiff as an NS9900. In terms of balance, it is rated as head-heavy and indeed it is but not overly-so like an AT700. In fact when I picked it up and played with it for the first time my mind immediately flashed back to the first time I used an AT800DE – balance (and flex too for that matter) is on a par with that I’d say.

Drives, nets, blocks and smash returns all feel good with this racket. Head pick-up speed is fast and manoeuvrability excellent, so short sharp shots come off with ease and its response is quick when on the defence or attacking at the net. In this respect it does not perform like more traditional head-heavy rackets (eg. AT900P or AT700) which can, dependant on technique of course, feel a little cumbersome to wield at times when involved in a super-fast doubles rally.

In terms of rear-court play (smashes, drops, clears), this racket also performs well. It displays good control and consistency with tightness of drops and lengths of clears, and power-wise it’s very good yet again. The angle of my smashes appeared steeper than usual and the strength of them was very strong, perhaps even stronger than before. Clears were effortless to execute and drops from the very back of the court had a certain level of finesse about them each and every time.

I have to conclude by saying that this is probably the first high-end Yonex racket (when I say “high-end”, I’m talking in terms of a high RRP) since the introduction of the AT700 in 2003, that I genuinely believe is a marked difference from what has gone before. That’s not to say that I haven’t been impressed by rackets such as other high-end AT’s or top-range NS and ARC rackets in between times, I have been, but to my mind the VT-70 is up there with the AT700, MP-99, and Ti-10 in terms of genuinely being “something different” at time of release and I honestly think this is a special racket.

MY Badminton Store Service:

This was my first time ordering from MBS and I have to say that I was impressed with their service. I live in the UK and from the time I placed my order, it only took 10 days for the racket to be selected, strung, boxed and shipped to my door. Moreover, the rackets arrived in first-class condition – packaging was excellent. I have absolutely no hesitation in ordering more items from MBS in the future and my thanks go to Winston and his team for their first-class service. 5 stars for the racket and 5 stars for MBS!
